چکیده

The seasonal temperature and humidity regime of the road foundation in active layer soil largely determines reliability safety automobile use. aim this article is a quantitative assessment influence variation ice content permafrost area on depth thawing. Analytical solutions one-phase flat Stefan problem at varying along coordinate were obtained. solution dimensionless form as Fourier function based number simplexes. dependence change distance was assumed to be linear. Calculations using obtained formulas conducted, comparing against assuming that constant. It determined which gradient averaging does not lead an error greater than permitted engineering practice determination thawing depth. results variant calculations are presented 2D 3D charts assess initial degree its over period use foundation.

On the gas-ice depth difference (1depth) along the EPICA Dome C ice core

We compare a variety of methods for estimating the gas/ice depth offset (1depth) at EPICA Dome C (EDC, East Antarctica). (1) Purely based on modelling efforts, 1depth can be estimated combining a firn densification with an ice flow model. (2) The diffusive column height can be estimated from δ15N and converted to 1depth using an ice flow model and assumptions about past average firn density and...

Melting the ice one layer at a time.

The melting of ice is one of the most common processes on earth. Interestingly, as an ice crystal is warmed from below toward its bulk melting temperature of 0 ◦C a thin film of water forms on it. This water film, referred to as a premelting layer or a quasi-liquid layer (QLL), has been known about for well over a century (1). It is relevant not just to the melting of ice but to important assoc...

A Road Ice Sensor

The investigation of ice formation found important applications in many different fields. For instance, the accretion of ice is a common occurrence on the aircraft, due to the high velocity and humidity, and low temperature at upper air. The detection of ice formation on aircrafts is a critical issue since not only the aerodynamics change, but there is also the possibility of ice liberation fro...

Trace metals content in soils along the state road 51 (northeastern Poland)

The aim of the study was to determine concentrations of some trace elements (lead, cadmium, chromium, and nickel) in soils along State Road 51 leading from Olsztyn to Olsztynek, northeastern Poland. The traffic flow had a significant effect on the content of heavy metals in soils lying along the road. Further away from the road, and under a lower traffic flow intensity, the amounts of contamina...
